Using a VPN with Cloud Apps: What You Need to Know
Best practices for pairing your VPN with cloud productivity tools.
Most cloud services work seamlessly with a VPN, but occasionally you’ll run into captchas or login alerts when your IP address changes. To minimize friction, connect to a server close to your actual location and enable split tunneling for apps that don’t handle VPNs well.
If you use self-hosted tools or remote desktops, make sure to whitelist your VPN’s IP range in firewall settings. Many business VPNs offer static IP options specifically for this purpose.
Finally, watch for bandwidth limits. Uploading large files through an encrypted tunnel can be slower, so schedule heavy transfers during off hours or temporarily disconnect if the data isn’t sensitive.
